Association for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Disorders

New for 2016!

This year, AMEND is applying to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. We’re aiming to raise vital funds for our project (Project Rollercoaster) to develop digital information resources for young people affected by multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN).  AMEND is well known for its quality patient information resources for families affected by these genetic cancer syndromes - your support of this campaign is vital to helping us continue to this work.

About Project Rollercoaster

The aim of these resources, which will fill the gap between our existing children’s and adult’s resources, is to help young people aged 16 to 25 take on the additional responsibility for their ongoing healthcare during the difficult phase of transition from paediatric to adult specialist medical services. The journey from adolescence to adulthood is a particularly challenging time for all young people from biological, social and psychological perspectives and is, in effect, a ‘rollercoaster’ of change.  This is no more so than for young people affected by MEN, who, at the same time as their period of great personal change, will be undergoing the additional turmoil of transition. Research shows that it is during this difficult period that around 25% of young patients disengage from their specialist healthcare services, with potentially serious negative consequences for their long-term health.

What is the Christmas Challenge?

The Christmas Challenge (the UK’s biggest online match-funding campaign) helps UK-registered charities to raise funds for their projects by doubling donations when the campaign goes live on 29th November. For example, a £100 online donation made to a participating charity during the Christmas Challenge can be doubled to become £200.  Nice!

Our Generous Pledgers

Our Pledgers have donated £1,100 into our Pledge Pot which will be used to double any donations collected for 72 hours from Giving Tuesday (29 November). In addition, we are delighted to have secured further Match Funds of £1,100 from Big Give Champion, the Lake House Charitable Foundation, which will also be used to double donations in excess of the Pledge Pot.  We are very grateful for everyone's help so far.

Thank you very much to our generous Pledgers
