The first resources developed as a result of AMEND's 'Project Superhero!' are now available FREE to all patients and families affected by MEN1 or MEN2a/2b.
These beautiful, colourful and exciting publications, each 32 pages long, follow the stories of two real children, Rueben and Cameron as they learn about MEN1 and MEN2 respectively.
The AMEND-funded comics have been produced to help aid open and easier discussion about MEN within families affected by MEN as well as between the children and their healthcare team.
All registered AMEND members will automatically receive a copy.
To learn more about 'Project Superhero!' and the comics, and to order a FREE copy yourself, please visit our webpage.
AMEND members from around the world are showing their solidarity by joining hands in a collage of smiles!
It's never too late to join in and raise awareness of rare diseases like multiple endocrine neoplasia. Just send us your photo.
Got kids? No problem! Teenagers can join in with specially tailored sessions and younger kids will be supervised by fully qualified and checked childcare staff from The Mobile Creche Company.
All kids, teens and the young at heart have free access to the zoo all day (younger children will be supervised).
This year's sessions include Basic MEN and Advanced MEN sessions including patient experiences, advice on emotional well-being from AMEND's own qualified Counsellor, and an Ask The Expert Q&A.
There's plenty of social time and an optional evening meal making this a great event for all the family, and just what the doctor prescribed.
Visit our webpage for more details on the programme and for our online booking system for the Information Day and childcare.
See you there!
Young Jack's family is affected by MEN1. As part of his school course work, Jack had to organise a fundraising event. Luckily for us, Jack has chosen to support AMEND in his challenge, a 10k kayak!
I hope you will support Jack by sponsoring him at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JackMaynard
Thank you and good luck Jack!
We look forward to hearing how you got on.
We hope you will join us in welcoming Helen Blakebrough to the AMEND team. Helen will be working in the UK office on a part-time basis as Personal Assistant to CEO, Jo, and as Office Administrator.
"My background is in office, operations and event management. I have been a busy mother of 2 young children for the past few years and am very excited about returning to work and the challenges ahead working for AMEND. I believe I can draw on my event and operations experience to assist in the smooth running of the charity and its upcoming events."
Helen will be taking on responsibility for sending out the Member Welcome Packs, for maintaining AMEND's membership and research databases and for event organisation, among other things.
You'll be seeing Helen around during 2014 for sure!
You can contact Helen through the Contact Us Page.
We invite you to meet the 'one and only' Matt Jones, who is our solo runner in the 2014 London Marathon!
Matt will be running to raise funds for AMEND on 13th April and will be posting occasional light-hearted videos of himself and his training efforts.
View his first offering now in which he introduces himself and why he's decided to do something so energetic for AMEND!
Please support him if you can.
Thank you to everyone who has supported AMEND this year, whether it be financially or by volunteering. You all help to make AMEND the successful and caring organisation it is.
This festive season we remember so many of those who are no longer with us and our thoughts go out to all their families and friends.
Jo in the UK, Vickie in the USA and Siobhan in New Zealand, together with all the Board Members and volunteers wish all our members and friends a peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The UK office will be closed between Monday 23 December and Tuesday 7th January while we move office; however we are all still contactable through the Contact Us Page.
Look forward to seeing you all in 2014!
